Carnegie Library Building Centennial

On December 21, 1901 Andrew Carnegie granted $10,000 for construction of the building that houses the Hockaday Museum of Art today. It has been continuously used for public service since it opened.

May 15, 1903 Cornerstone placed
January 12, 1904 Public library formally opened
February 10, 1969 The Hockaday Art Center occupies the building after library moves to a new location. In 1998, the Hockaday Center changed its name to the Hockaday Museum of Art to reflect its new focus.

 On May 1, 2003, we celebrated the centennial of the laying of the cornerstone of the Carnegie library building which now houses the Hockaday Museum of Art. On January 15, 2004, we celebrated the centennial of the Carnegie library opening, which took place on January 12, 1904.
